Discrimination of Transformer Inrush Currents and Internal Fault Currents Using Extended Kalman Filter Algorithm (EKF)

The discrimination of inrush currents and internal fault in transformers is an important feature a transformer protection scheme. harmonic current restrained used conventional differential relay transformers. A literature survey shows that the between still area open to research. In this paper, classification magnetic performed by using extended Kalman filter (EKF) algorithm. When energized under normal conditions, EKF estimates primary side winding and, hence, absolute residual signal (ARS) value zero. ARS will not be equal zero for phenomena conditions; algorithm discriminating faults keeping threshold level value. simulation results are compared with theoretical analysis various conditions. It also observed detection time decreases severity fault. test cases presented. This scheme provides fast severe faults.
